About Me

Sarah J. Lee, MSMHW

I work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, fear, lack of boundaries, codependency, relational issues, spiritual discontentment, lack of connection and issues as a result of trauma/pain. My desire is to help all individuals connect to God in a way that feels real and true, walk-in self-acceptance, engage with others in meaningful relationships and to explore and experience who God created them to be. With extensive training and learning in brain science and theology (neurotheology) as well as internal family systems (from a Christian perspective) root issues can be healed and you can live a life of “righteousness, peace, and joy.”

My Expertise

Heart Healing

I use the Immanuel Approach founded by Dr. Karl Lehman. This is a gentle, noninvasive approach that keeps your emotional safety at the forefront. By experiencing positive encounters through positive memories, heart healing can begin. Additional time is required for specific heart healing sessions lasting 90 minutes. Three to five appointments bring the most benefit.

Codependency
I have done extensive training in codependency through webinars and research and reading. I have taught several classes on codependency and have lead several groups. Overcoming codependency is key in learning to live from your True Self, engaging in healthy relationships and coming out from subjection to others.
Boundaries
Along with codependency, a lack of boundaries is destructive to engaging in healthy relationships. Learning to say “no” is healthy.
Trauma/Pain
Many of us are in pain and don’t even know it. The emotional part of our brain doesn’t keep track of time, so even though an event happened a long time ago, it is still affecting you in the present. We don’t realize that the constant pit in our stomach is shame/pain or finding ourselves overreacting or repeating the same patterns over and over – at its root is pain/trauma. Trauma can be described as “all alone without any help.” Trauma stunts our ability to grow and mature. Healing comes when we change our experience. We are not rewriting the narrative, but with inviting Jesus into those areas of your life, your experience can be different; helping you to walk in freedom, not feeling so overwhelmed, stuck or controlled by your past experiences.
Anxiety

A certain amount of anxiety is normal, we live in a very fast-paced, stressful world. But anxiety can also come from other sources and show up in many different forms; specifically, fear. If you are living a fear-based life, then fear is managing you. By addressing fear and allowing God’s love to take root in you, anxiety can be alleviated or lessened empowering to take charge of your life.

Spiritual Discontentment
If you are having a hard time connecting to God, you are not alone. We may have knowledge of God because we read the Word but our experiences tell us something different. Your heart has a natural God-given guard; when it perceives something as scary, maddening or unhappy it will protect. Learning to bring your heart into alignment with your knowledge happens through inner healing. We have not been taught to care for our hearts, listen to our heart or even interact with our hearts. By doing heart-healing you will come to love and appreciate your heart – after all – “all the issues of life flow from it.”
Disconnection

We all disassociate in one degree or another. When is the last time you drove to a destination and had no idea how you got there? We disassociate to avoid pain. We were wired for love, not pain and often do not know how to deal with pain so we go to a happy place…without even realizing it. Learning to come present with yourself and walk-in self-acceptance is a lifelong journey, a good journey, a well worthwhile journey. You are God’s idea. His desire is that you see yourself and love yourself the way He sees you and loves you. It is from this place that you are then able to love others. As you learn to connect with yourself, you will be able to connect with God and others.

My Approach & Values

Do you find yourself stressed in this fast-paced life just trying to keep up. Experiencing a lack of fulfillment and direction we can live in a cycle of behavioral  patterns that rob us of our joy. We continue to engage in difficult/broken relationships, lack of boundaries, codependent behaviors, disconnection from God, ourselves and others. Our heart is in pain and we are not even aware of it.

My counseling style is with you in mind. My desire is to collaborate with you, helping you discover the areas in your life that are keeping you from living the life you desire; fulfilled and fulfilling. My goal is that you will feel heard, valued and leave each appointment with hope and practical tools to apply to your life and circumstances. I understand how counseling can feel intimidating, at times overwhelming and even painful. Sometimes you may wonder what you even want to talk about? With a gentle approach my commitment is to help you continue to move forward toward healing, wholeness and freedom.
